The Office of Institutional Diversity and Inclusion has rescheduled the Train the Trainer session focused on Equity and Inclusion for September 15th & 16th. Led by Dr. Kumea Shorter-Gooden, these sessions are geared towards creating pathways that cultivate learning and catalyze equity and inclusion.
Inclusive Pedagogy: How to Effectively Engage Diverse Students**
This interactive session for faculty will address what inclusive teaching is, why it is important, and strategies to teach inclusively. Consideration will be given to what faculty bring to the classroom, what students bring to the classroom, course content, pedagogical approaches, and classroom dynamics.
Implicit Bias: What It Is and What We Can Do about It**
This interactive session for faculty, staff and students will increase awareness of and knowledge about implicit bias and microaggressions, heighten understanding of their negative impact on the campus climate, and foster skills in interrupting bias in order to create an inclusive campus.
How to Support the Retention and Advancement of Underrepresented Faculty
This session for administrators will foster an understanding of the experiences of underrepresented faculty, enhance knowledge of best practices in supporting and mentoring underrepresented faculty, and enable administrators to formulate one step or strategy that they will carry forward.
Evidence-based Strategies to Reduce Bias in Hiring
This session for faculty and staff will increase knowledge about implicit bias and its impact on the faculty and staff search and selection process. Evidence-based practices to mitigate bias and to hire inclusively will be provided.
