Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day

Each year on Marin Luther King, Jr. Day, the Office of Inclusive Excellence hosts a breakfast to honor the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. The MLK Breakfast tradition has grown to an event that is beloved by the campus and community. With a keynote speaker, a call to participate in Maroon Volunteers organized service activities after the program, and selections from Black Voices, Mississippi State University’s student gospel choir, there is a place to listen, learn, and build understanding.

Unity Breakfast 2024

Join us on January 15, 2024 to celebrate the 30th Annual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Unity Breakfast. Each year, Mississippi State University host the Annual Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Unity Breakfast and Day of Service. This event brings over 700+ community members and leaders, state and local representatives, and Mississippi State Faculty, Staff and Students together to honor the life and legacy of Dr. King. Immediately following the program, attendees and others have opportunities to continue Dr. King’s legacy of service by participating in community-wide service initiatives.

MLK Literary and Art Submissions

As part of our celebration of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.’s legacy, we host a Literary and Art Contest. This contest calls for papers or art submissions from local area high school students in Starkville, West Point and Columbus that describe the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.  These submissions will examine Dr. King’s life of social activism and intellectual work as it relates to the challenge of racial reconciliation in our currently divided nation.
